New Delhi: The Congress today appointed Corporate Affairs Minister Sachin Pilot as its Rajasthan unit president. The announcement was made around 3 pm by senior party leader Janardan Dwivedi.
He will become the second Congress minister after Jayanthi Natarajan to be relieved of his charges. Natarajan was relieved from the post of Environment Minister last week.
Meanwhile, in a separate announcement, the Congress also declared that Priyanka Gandhi, daughter of party president Sonia Gandhi, will only be campaigning for the Congress in its Uttar Pradesh strongholds - Amethi and Raebareli.
The presence of Priyanka, and the absence of her brother, party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, at a party meet last week had created a flutter within the political circles, sparking speculation about a stronger role for her in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
