Jamshedpur: BJP President Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said the Congress was conspiring to impose emergency in the country like it did 36 years ago and wanted to crush the people's voice against issues like black-money and corruption.
Despite preaching non-violence, the Congress was indulging in violence as manifested in the mid-night police raid at Ramlila Maidan, the venue of yoga guru Ramdev's fast on June 4, Gadkari told a public meeting at Agrico Maidan while campaigning for his party's candidate, state unit President Dineshanand Goswami for July 1 Jamshedpur Lok Sabha by-poll.
Alleging the Congress was plotting to clamp an Emergency-like situation in the country as in 1975, Gadkari vowed that BJP workers will sacrifice their lives but would not allow any repeat of the June 4 midnight situation.
Gadkari said the saffron party had nothing to do with Ramdev-Hazare's stir but will support anyone spearheading movement against corruption.
"The PM and Sonia Gandhi do not want to disclose the names of the defaulters as they know several Congress leaders will be implicated if the names were disclosed," he claimed.
Gadkari said out of 140 nations, 117 countries had brought back the black-money but the Indian government has not initiated action so far.
"What harm in taking action against persons owning the black-money? Why the government is scared to disclose the names despite Supreme Court's intervention in this regard?" asked the BJP leader.
