Lucknow: Stung by the allegations of involvement in the multi-crore NRHM scam, Samajwadi Party said on Saturday that not a "single paisa" was given to the state when the SP was in power thus the question of misuse of funds does not arise.
"The first installment of Rs 17.26 crores was given on June 27, 2007 and by then the BSP had come to power in the state," Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Parishad, Ahmed Hasan said.
As not a single paisa was given till the SP was in power, the question of it being misused does not arise, he said.
"It is totally unethical to drag Samajwadi Party in the multi crore NRHM scam," he said adding that it (allegations) goes on to prove mental bankruptcy of the Congress.
Some state Congress leaders have recently alleged that not only the ruling BSP but SP was also involved in the scam. Giving details, Hasan said that the NRHM scheme was started during the Samajwadi Party government in November 16, 2006 with the constitution of state health society and an MOU was signed with the central government on November 22, 2006.
The state health society was registered on February 21, 2007 and its account was opened on March 29, 2007 but before funds were given to the state BSP came to power on May 13, 2007, Hasan added.
