Bangalore: Supporters of former Karnataka minister Hartalu Halappa assulted media persons while he was being taken to the hospital in Bangalore for treatment.
He was being taken to Bangalore's Victoria Hospital for a medical checkup whenthe media persons allegedly came under attack.
A special room has been provided to Halappa and a five-member medical team set up to treat him.
"Halappa has multiple ailments, such as high blood pressure, high sugar and asthama. Team of five doctors have been formed to monitor his conditions. Decision on his discharge will be taken later," said Medical Superintendent of Victoria Hospital Dr BG Tilak.
The former minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader had been shifted to central jail in Bangalore where he was brought from Shimoga amidst tight security on Thursday night.
Halappa, who has been charged with rape, complained of chest pain and had to be hospitalised moments to McGann Hospital in Shimoga after he was arrested on May 9.
A magistrate court in Shimoga on Thursday permitted Halappa to be shifted from McGann Hospital to Victoria Hospital.
The former minister was arrested following a complaint by Chandravathi, wife of financier and his friend Venkatesh Murthy, that he had raped her in November 2009.
