New Delhi: The Left has blamed its poll debacle on its allies, the politburo released a statement on Tuesday afternoon.

The statement said that the voters were unhappy with the alliance the Left had forged in some states, and that they were not seen as credible alternative at the national level.

They also blamed both national and state issues and claimed that minorities voted for the Congress to defeat the BJP.

On Monday, the CPM politburo had met in Delhi and discussed its performance.

Both Kerala and West Bengal face Assembly elections in 2011 and the CPI(M) leadership would be pondering over how to save these 'red citadels' from going to the hands of Congress and its allies.

Left Front has been ruling Bengal for over three decades since it came to power in 1977.

The total tally of the four Left parties in Parliament has plummeted from 61 in 2004 to 24 this time round, with CPI(M) alone tumbling down from 43 seats in the 14th Lok Sabha to 16 now.

CPI's strength has also fallen from 10 to four and RSP and Forward Bloc from three each to two each.
