New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday ordered probe into the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Pandit in Greater Noida. He said that guilty will not be spared.
Earlier in the day, the Noida Police detained four people in connection with the murder of Pandit. Police have also imposed Section 144 in Dadri area of Gautam Buddha Nagar district as BJP leaders have been protesting against the murder and had also torched a few vehicles. Tension continues to prevail in the area.
Deepak Singh, Principal Secretary, Home, UP said, "The Chief has given us order to normalise the tense atmosphere. We will take stern action."
The deceased's brother meanwhile has demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident alleging that Pandit had received threat calls during the elections. "Police and UP government is responsible for it. My brother was getting threatening calls during elections. In spite of giving a written complaint, no action was taken. We don't have doubt on anyone. We will demand a CBI inquiry. Only then, we will find the real accused," said Lokesh Pandit.
BJP leader Vijay Pandit was shot dead by some unidentified men on Saturday evening. The assailants came on a motorcycle and fired five bullets at Pandit causing his immediate death.
Political parties across party lines have been targeting the Akhilesh Yadav government for the dismal law and order situation in the state. The state is already under fire for the spate in rape incidents.
"There is no law and order in UP. There is no government there. In addition, the UP government's response is very casual to such crimes. Such a response not only encourages the criminals but also gives no relief to the victims of these crimes," said BJP's Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
Rashid Alvi of the Congress too condemned the incident saying, "It is terrible news to hear of the BJP leader's death in UP. Those who are responsible for it should be punished. There are a lot of untoward incidences that have been happening in UP. The government needs to wake up and act fast."
