OP Chautala in jail will help BJP and not INLD: Captain Abhimanyu
"There will definitely be an effect. Not on the BJP but on the INLD. People won't vote for a criminal," BJP's Captain Abhimanyu said.

Narnaund: Even as Indian National Lok Dal chief (INLD) Om Prakash Chautala is behind the bars, several party leaders feel that their candidates will get sympathy votes in the Haryana Assembly elections. But Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Narnaund Captain Abhimanyu mocked the INLD and said, "There will definitely be an effect. Not on the BJP but on the INLD. People won't vote for a criminal."

While the BJP declared Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate months before the Lok Sabha elections, the party shied away from declaring its chief ministerial candidate in the assembly elections in Haryana or Maharashtra.

However, Captain Abhimanyu is being seen as a front runner for the chief ministerial post in Haryana if the party wins power, a task that the party is confident of. "You can see the number of people that have come n for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally. This shows the support that the people are giving to the BJP. There is no way that we are not winning the elections,"Captain Abhimanyu said.

He is fighting on the Narnaund seat against INLD's Raj Singh Mor. Building his election campaign on the development agenda, the BJP leader assured that his party "will create employment opportunities if they come to power and give Rs 6000 per month to the undergraduates and Rs 9000 per month to the graduates".

He has also extensively campaigned to end female feoticide in the state. "We have to save the daughters, educate them and make Haryana glorious (Betiyo ko bnachana hai, padhana hai aur Haryana ko chamkana hai)," has been his tag line as he reached out to the voters.

Captain Abhimanyu is an former Army officer who has been active in social work for the past two decades. While people in Narnaund heaped praises for his counterpart from the INLD, they also claimed that Abhimanyu had a strong backing among the 'upper class'.

Mor is a former police officer and it promises to be an interesting battle against a former Armyman.
