Political parties adopt Jai Ho as their anthem
Child stars Rubina and Azhar have now got new apartments.

New Delhi: Everyone likes a winner and the success of the film Slumdog Millioaire should be no different. Jai Ho is now slowly becoming a political anthem and parties are piling over each other to grab a part of the Oscar pie. The child stars Rubina and Azhar, who live in Mumbai slums have now got flats from the Mumbai Housing Authority.

The Congress, with an eye on the polls made a rather tenous link between Slumdog Millionaire's Academy sweep and the UPA creating a "conducive environment".

"We are proud of the conducive environment created by the UPA Government with its special emphasis on inclusive democracy. India has now become 'achieving India'," Abhishek Manu Singhvi had said earlier.

Maybe the conducive environment Singhvi was referring to was the labyrinth of slums that have only spread wider six decades after independence, giving Danny Boyle his source material.

When asked whether this Oscar encashment makes for good spin doctoring, BJP's top political strategist Arun Jaitley said, "This is such immature strategy. Because Indians are doing well, you cant take credit for it."

Why then, one wonders, is the BJP using the Slumdog Millionaire anthem Jai Ho at its convention and the BJP Maharashtra General Secretary, Tawde claiming maestro A R Rahman as his own.

Despite this political posturing, what is obvious is that so many Indian success stories are possible because in India, individual genius has shone despite state neglect.

What's your reaction?
