New Delhi: The period of protection against custody of former Rajasthan minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gulab Chand Kataria in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case ends on Friday. A special CBI court had granted Kataria interim protection from arrest till June 14.
Kataria is the second high-profile politician to be named in the case after former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah. Kataria, presently leader of the Opposition in Rajasthan, was the state's home minister at the time of killings of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife Kauser Bi and Tulsiram Prajapati.
Kataria was named in the chargesheet filed by the CBI in the Sorabuddin encounter case note. He has been charged for murder, destruction of evidence, abduction, and criminal conspiracy among other serious IPC sections. The CBI is convinced that he played a direct role in hatching the conspiracy to eliminate Sohrabuddin.
Along with the former minister, three others including two police officers from Andhra Pradesh and an Executive Director of the Marble Company, were named in the CBI chargesheet.
