Panaji: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address a public rally in Goa on Saturday, her first ever since her surgery in August. The party has planned a massive rally at Campal parade ground in Panaji, where Sonia is scheduled to address a crowd of 50,000 people, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee chief Subhash Shirodkar said.
"This is her first ever public rally (post surgery in the US in August)," he said, adding that this is also the first time she would be going out of Delhi after the operation.
The event is being held in the run up for the Golden Jubilee celebration of Goa's liberation from Portuguese rule following the Indian Army's Operation Vijay on December 19, 1961.
Sonia will speak on the roadmap for the state for the next 25 years, Shirodkar said.
Union Defence Minister AK Antony and Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Veerappa Moily will also attend the functions, he said.
The state government has organised several events tomorrow, which includes laying of foundation stone for Vijay Smarak (Victory Memorial) at Aguada plateau, 10 km away from Panaji, he said.
Sonia had to deliver her first public speech after recovery in Uttarakhand on November 11 but could not do so owing to health issues.
Meanwhile, her visit has already started attracting controversies with the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), a forum propagating Indian languages in elementary education, claiming that they will show black flags to her.
