'Tutne Nahi Denge': In Manipur Poll Rally, Amit Shah Says BJP Is Up Against Divisive Forces

Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah, who is in Manipur’s Imphal to further step up the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, said upcoming polls are not between BJP and Congress, but rather between the people who want to divide the people in violence-hit state and the BJP, which wants to protect it.

Addressing a public rally in Imphal on Monday, the Union Home Minister said, “The most important thing is that no matter how much one tries- ‘hum Manipur ko tutne nahi denge (we won’t let Manipur break).”

This is Shah’s first visit to Manipur this year. He visited the state last year for a couple of days after the ethnic unrest broke out there.

He said that the elections for Lok Sabha will soon begin and people must make Narendra Modi India’s Prime Minister again.

“This election is not between BJP and Congress. Rather, it’s between the people who want to divide Manipur and the BJP, which wants to protect Manipur… Over the past 10 years, Modi ji has not only made India prosperous but also enhanced the safety and security of India. Modi ji has brought peace and harmony to the Northeast, which was struggling due to extremism and Naxalism for 75 years,” PM Modi said.

Further slamming Congress, the Union Minister said the grand old party has always given importance to the ‘tukde tukde’ gang.

“BJP has ended corruption in Manipur…In the coming days, PM Modi’s priority is maintaining peace in Manipur,” he said.

Shah further said that attempts of infiltration are being made to change the demography of Manipur.

“Destiny of country will change when that of northeast and Manipur will change…I want to tell this today that our (CM) Biren Singh may not say this, but he kept a big demand before PM Modi – Manipur cannot remain united without an inner-line permit. The BJP government has strengthened Manipur by giving inner-line permit,” he said.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh was also present on the occasion.

At least 219 people were killed after ethnic clashes broke out in Manipur on May 3 last year, when a Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Listing the BJP government’s achievements over the past 10 years, Shah said in the last decade, over 25 crore people have moved out of poverty, 80 crore poor have received free ration, 10 crore gas cylinders have been disbursed and 14 crore families have received tap water connections.
