U'khand polls: 911 aspirants for 70 Assembly seats
The scrutiny of nomination papers would be held on Friday, while the last date of withdrawal of names is January 16.

Dehra Dun: A total of 911 candidates have filed their nominations for 70 Assembly seats in Uttarakhand where polling is scheduled to be held on January 30.

"At the end of the filing of nominations process today, 911 candidates are now in the fray," Uttarakhand Chief Election Officer Radha Raturi said in Dehra Dun.

A total of 384 candidates on Thursday filed their nomination papers, she said.

State education minister Matbar Singh Kandari (BJP), former minister Nav Prabhat (Cong) and Manish Tiwari (Cong), nephew of veteran Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister ND Tiwari, were among those who filed their nominations on the last day.

The scrutiny of nomination papers would be held on Friday, while the last date of withdrawal of names is January 16.

Both ruling BJP and main opposition Congress have fielded their candidates on all the 70 seats in the hill state where nearly 64 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise.
