Want a star campaigner? Get ready to pay for transport
The EC says candidate will have to bear 50 per cent of transport cost.

New Delhi: Political parties have always been very fond of getting film stars for campaigning. They believe stars can bring in more votes for their candidates. But now party leaders will have to think twice before they hire any star campaigner.

According to the new directive by the Election Commission, candidates would be charged 50 per cent of the travel costs if he or she boards the same flight or chopper as the star campaigner.

This 50 per cent would be deducted from the campaign budget of the candidate.

Currently, Lok Sabha candidates have a Rs 25 lakh expense limit. However, earlier the entire expenditure of star campaigners would be borne by the party, and this had no limit.
