The Vyapam scam continues to create upheaval in the Madhya Pradesh administration. The head of the special investigation team (SIT) probing the scam says action will be taken against MP Governor Ram Naresh Yadav after he retires.
The SIT Chief has said that they have proof against Yadav but he enjoys immunity till he holds the MP Governor's post. The SIT has already filed an FIR against Yadav and his son over the Vyapam scam.
"High Court has already said that you can investigaate when the governor retires. He cannot be arrested until he retires but investigation is not being affected in anyway. The Special Task Force intends to present challans by the end of July," Justice (Retd) Chandresh Bhushan SIT chief said.
Ram Naresh Yadav's tenure as MP Governor ends in June 2016.
The Vyapam scam in MP has become a major political controversy with numerous witnesses and accused dying under mysterious circumstances. The MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam relates to irregularities in admission in state-run medical colleges and recruitment in government jobs.
Alleged financial and administrative irregularities, including unauthorised disposal of application forms, worth crores of rupees by the MPPEB have been pointed out in an audit report.
The audit, which was conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Local Fund Audit office for 2007-08, found a difference of about Rs 4 crore in revenue earned from sales of application forms by the MPPEB or 'Vyapam'. The MPPEB conducts entrance and recruitment tests for admission in medical and engineering courses, and selection in certain government services, among others.
It has been alleged that the corrupt officials at the board took money to compromise the examination and recruitment for several professional courses. These courses include pre-engineering, pre-medical, MCA, teaching etc.
The Congress has accused persons at the highest levels of government of being involved in the scam, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, his wife Sadhna Singh and Governor Ram Naresh Yadav.
Over forty people linked to the scam have died in the last five years and 24 accused have died under mysterious circumstances. The most high profile death was of MP Governor Ram Naresh Yadav's son Shailesh.
A Special Task Force under the supervision of the MP High Court is probing the case.
