Chrome users on desktop have been protected by websites that try to access your device location and even camera. Soon, the Android version of Chrome will also stop these platforms from invading your privacy without your consent.
The feature is already being tested with select Android Chrome users who are getting a taste of how the phone’s camera and location will not be accessible to websites if you don’t want them to. The automatic revoking of these permissions will ensure that any random site is not able to seek your data and use it to push personalised ads on the browser.
There are websites that you visit casually and end up giving access to these sensors on your phone. Google was previously not careful about how the tracking works but the revoking option is necessary for people who tend to forget removing such actions.
The tipster has shared the screenshots of the revoking feature that Chrome will automatically apply. However, users will have to enable the feature from the settings to truly become effective.
It is high time that privacy features like these come to Android users as well, who face more sophisticated attacks these days, and this tool will come in handy for millions. It seems the feature will make its way to the public Chrome Android version by next month, with the Chrome 128 version expected to offer it for the users.
Chrome users face a lot of security issues for which even the Indian government issues security warning at regular intervals. These updates are already available from Google but an alert is needed to get the user’s attention.
