An overview of plans of Electronic Arts for the next few years of "Star Wars" games shows that the studio network has plenty in the pipeline and a very "Uncharted"-looking entry for 2018.
1. Star Wars Battlefront
Sweden's DICE studio is most strongly associated with the Battlefield series of first-person action games, but that's changing now as "Star Wars Battlefront" gets into gear. The first game was released late 2015, while Bespin and Death Star levels are due before the end of 2016, and it's collaborating with Motive Studios in Montreal and the UK's Criterion for a "Star Wars Battlefront" sequel, due 2017. Jade Raymond, once of the "Assassin's Creed" franchise, heads up Motive.
2. Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
Mobile game "Galaxy of Heroes" was launched around the same time as "Battlefront" i.e., in the lead up to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" breaking box office records -- and works as a form of digital strategy card game featuring a host of characters from the films and beyond; development continues as updates are added.
3. Star Wars: The Old Republic
Once subscription-based and now free, this MMO was a precursor to EA's now established partnership with Disney / Lucasfilm and, with 2016 its fifth year, is expected to celebrate in style.
4. Amy Hennig's Star Wars game
Having steered the first three critically acclaimed and commercially successful "Uncharted" games for Sony PlayStation studio Naughty Dog, Amy Hennig joined Visceral Games, the outfit behind similarly praised sci-fi horror "Dead Space."
Here, with the story team at Lucasfilm, she's making a secretive Star Wars game that was given its first glimpse during EA's live show at E3 2016.
From the few seconds shown, the game looks like an extremely high-fidelity "Uncharted" sunk deep into the "Star Wars" world.
5. Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars game
The "Titanfall" developer has a decent amount to take care of with "Titanfall 2" launching October 2016, but that hasn't stopped it steaming ahead with its own contribution to EA's "Star Wars" roster.
Whatever it's working on, there should be plenty of "wow moments" according to Respawn's Stig Asmussen. He had previously worked on the "God of War" games for PlayStation as motion capture actors acrobatically smashed lightsabers for the team's mystery game. EA says it will have a different timeline and a different style of game- play.
Though not yet been dated, 2019 seems like a strong possibility.
