Now that 2024 is here and the iPhone 15 series is four months old, new details about the next-gen iPhone 16 models are starting to surface.
Analyst Jeff Pu has predicted that the next vanilla iPhones, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus, could feature 8GB of RAM as standard, up from the 6GB of RAM that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus ship with, as spotted by MacRumors.
Pu reiterated this in a research note with investment firm Haitong International Securities. He stated that all iPhone models in the iPhone 16 series will include 8GB of RAM for improved performance and multitasking. It should be noted that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max already have 8GB of RAM, which is more than the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
If you think about it, Apple has chosen different RAM for iPhone models many times in the past—the iPhone XR had 3GB RAM compared to the 4GB RAM in the iPhone XS, the iPhone 12 had 4GB RAM compared to the 6GB setup in the iPhone 12 Pro, and other models have also shipped with different RAM. This means that the iPhone 16 regular models and the iPhone 16 Pro could be more similarly specced than the current iPhone 15 models.
Additionally, Pu thinks the iPhone 16 models will support Wi-Fi 6E, which will enable them to use 6GHz bands for faster speeds. Currently, only the high-end iPhone 15 Pro models support this feature.
Keep in mind that this is all speculation for now, and Apple’s plans may change before the phones go into mass production. So, take everything with a grain of salt until the new iPhones launch in September.
