New Delhi: Gambling in Las Vegas is all set for an overhaul, thanks to a new legislation signed by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval that will turn the age-old slot machines into ones that include skill-based video game settings.

Skill-based video games which include shooting aliens, driving cars or performing other acts are being introduced in a bid to attract the younger generation of Las Vegas gamblers.

A report in Ars Technica quoted Chris Moyer, a spokesman with the American Gaming Association, saying, “I wouldn't be surprised to see some video game partnership licensing deals” and that “lot of the popular video games could make their way into the casino floors.”

Meanwhile, Governor Sandoval said that the legislation was indeed designed to capture a new generation of gamblers and the bill allows gaming manufacturers to use cutting-edge technology to meet the challenges prompted by a younger, more technologically engaged visitor demographic.

But, how well will the new gaming experience fit in the older luck-based gamble? The Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers, a key proponent of the legislation, said that skilled gamers could increase their payback chance from the usual 88 per cent to 98 per cent with the new setup.

Sandoval’s approval of the bill doesn’t necessarily mean that the casinos would sport the shiny new video gaming consoles overnight. It is now up to Nevada gaming regulators to formulate rules covering the games. The new games are expected to make their way to the state's casino floors by year's end.
