Microsoft: Windows 10 for phones won't launch this summer
Features like the new browser-Microsoft Edge, and a messaging app with Skype integration will also miss the summer launch.

New Delhi: Windows Phone users will have to wait a little longer for Microsoft's latest Windows 10 software update to arrive on their smartphones. The upcoming OS for PCs is lined up for a summer release, however, its version for mobile devices will take a tad longer than expected.

Microsoft's Joe Belfiore announced the delay at a media event at Build in San Francisco, saying the phone builds have not been as far along as the PC builds. He explained that Microsoft is adapting the phone experiences later than the PC experiences.

A report on The Verge notes that a slower progress for the phone OS means that the roll out will begin after the PC launch. Belfiore explained that not all features and devices will come on launch date.

The main focus is to push out the latest Windows 10 with a great launch on the PC. Other devices, phone, HoloLens, Xbox, Surface Hub, will not necessarily be on the same date as the release for the PCs.

A delayed Windows Phone OS launch is indicative of a new Lumia hardware's arrival later this year and not along with the Windows 10 PCs. Microsoft's earlier Windows 8.1 version shipped earlier than the phone version and the same is replicated with the Windows 10 release too.

One of the most anticipated features of the new Windows software is the new Internet browser, Microsoft Edge, which is going to replace the old Internet Explorer browser. However, Belfiore has crushed many hopefuls that Edge will be one of the features that will miss the summer release. A new messaging app with Skype integration will also skip the launch date and arrive some time later.

There is no official word on when exactly Windows 10 will be out in the summer, but the company has stressed that it will be released as a service with lot of rapid updates, new features, and app changes in the months after the launch.
