Canadian Family Receives Wrong Body After Father Dies On Cuban Vacation
The funeral services were scheduled, but instead, the daughter was left calling and emailing officials to find her father’s body.

A family in Quebec is seeking answers from authorities after their father’s mortal remains did not reach Canada from Cuba, where he died. The horrifying incident has left the family shocked. The family was further left devastated when in place of their father, they received the body of another man. The family has already spent $25,000 Canadian (approx Rs 15.2 lakh) till now, including the funeral costs that have been kept on hold.

Faraj Allah Jarjour and his family were vacationing in Cuba. Miriam Jarjour was swimming with the 68-year-old in the ocean near Varadero, Cuba on March 22. The father suddenly faced a heart attack and died. Due to the unavailability of medical facilities nearby, the family propped his body on a beach chair in the hot sun and left it covered for more than eight hours, until a car arrived to take them to Havana. The family claims that after that, they are not sure what happened.

The funeral services were scheduled, but instead, the daughter was left calling and emailing officials to find her father’s body. The family had already paid $10,000 Canadian (approx Rs 6 lakh) to have the body returned home to the family. But, the grieving family was at a loss of words when the casket arrived and instead of finding the remains of their beloved father, it was a Russian man, who was 20 years younger than Faraj Allah Jarjour. The body also had a full head of hair and tattoos, unlike their father. While the Jarjour family sent the stranger’s body to his country, they have no idea where their father’s body is.

Miriam contacted Canada’s consular authorities in Cuba, who pointed fingers at the company responsible for returning remains. After back-and-forth emails to various government officials, it was the Member of Parliament who agreed to reach out to the Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly. Meanwhile, the family feels “destroyed” due to the ordeal and is exhausted. They have no answers and are still waiting for some answers.

As per reports, the family has spent $25,000 Canadian (approx Rs 15.2 lakh), including $15,000 Canadian (approx Rs 9 lakh) for funeral services that have been put on hold for now. The family is struggling with their grief and loss, while they are still seeking answers to know the whereabouts of their father’s mortal remains.
