Delhi Police often use various media platforms and clever captions to disseminate messages about road safety. They adeptly use ongoing trends to underscore the significance of adhering to traffic regulations and maintaining vigilance while driving. In light of the Oscar season, they shared a humorous post to highlight how crucial it is to always wear a helmet when riding a two-wheeled vehicle.
The law enforcement agency shared the picture on Instagram, featuring the iconic Oscar statuette. The overlaying text read, “Oscar for Best Story goes to… “Bas yahin taka jaana tha, islie helmet nahi lagaya” (I just had to go this far, that’s why I didn’t wear a helmet).”
The accompanying text read, “Helmet nahi lagane ke liye aap ne kya story banayi (What story did you make up to not wear a helmet)? Tell us in the comments.”
The post accumulated over 6,000 likes on the social media platform. The users in the comments section responded in an equally humorous manner.
A user wrote, “Par sir mai toh helmet he lene jaa raha tha (But sir, I was going to get a helmet.)”
Another user said, “Ye lo sir baat karo (Here, sir, you talk to him)”, highlighting the situations where someone from higher authorities intervenes for your immediate bail.
“Helmet parking se chori ho gaya. Complaint likhaane jaa raha tha (My helmet was stolen from the parking. I was going to file a complaint.)”
Amidst all the fun and games, it’s crucial to remember that wearing a helmet is very important for people riding two-wheelers. Indian traffic laws require both the rider and the passenger on a two-wheeler to wear helmets for safety.
Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 mandates the use of helmets while riding a two-wheeler, and violation of this law is subject to penalties. Initially, the fine for non-compliance was set at Rs. 100. However, due to the insignificance of this amount, many riders disregarded the rule.
In 2019, the Indian government revised the Motor Vehicles Act to impose higher penalties for violations. As a result, section 194D of the Motor Vehicles Act, 2019 increased the penalties for riding a bike without a helmet to Rs 1,000. The Act also allows for a three-month suspension of the driver’s license. However, the specific punishment for not wearing a helmet can vary from state to state.
