A paan is an integral part of Indian cuisine, which is generally an after-meal treat to refresh the tastebuds. A classic Indian paan is a refreshment that comes wrapped in a betel leaf, with some herbs, spices and dry fruits as well. It also has other ingredients like tobacco and sweeteners that are added as per the customer’s taste and demand. To make paan a luxury, now many have started offering a range of flavours like chocolate, fire, ice and much more. The most basic paan can cost anywhere between Rs 10 or Rs 20 and the now gourmet paan can range between Rs 300 to Rs 800. But how can one make eating paan more luxurious? Well, an MBA graduate in Mumbai might have found the way.

Mumbai-based MBA graduate, Naushad Sheikh has been attracting clients from across the country and abroad like the United Kingdom and Dubai. He has developed a one-of-a-kind paan made using special ingredients that cost about Rs 1 lakh. The paan sold in his shop is tobacco-free.

Naushad Sheikh had job offers from many multinational companies with good salary packages. But he was keen on doing something of his own. He decided to continue his forefathers’ business and gave a royal touch to the traditional Paan shop, which he named The Paan Story. Naushad said that his luxurious Rs 1 Lakh paan is specially bought by newlywed grooms. He claims that the bride and groom become happy after eating it.

If you look at the paan carefully, it will look quite ordinary, but after it is ready, the gold foil is applied. Hence, the price of the paan is so high. Naushad has named this unique paan Fragrance of Love which costs Rs 1 lakh. The box of the Paan contains two separate boxes named Prince and Princess in which fragrant perfume is sprayed and contains Saffron. Even a replica of the Taj Mahal made of marble stone is gifted as a souvenir in the hamper.

The Paan Story shop is located in Mumbai’s Mahim West, near Delhi Zaika. It is opposite Michael Church.
