Nagpur’s famous tea-seller Dolly Chaiwala has become a celebrity in his own right and a recent incident at an airport, as narrated by India’s hockey star Hardik Singh, proves just this. At the airport, where the players from the Indian hockey team – fresh off their bronze finish at the Paris 2024 Olympics – and Dolly Chaiwala were present, something unexpected happened. People flocked to Dolly Chaiwala instead of the hockey champions for selfies. Singh recalled the incident on a podcast, adding that the incident left the team embarassed.

“I saw it with my own eyes, at the airport. Harmanpreet (Singh), I, Mandeep (Singh); there were 5-6 of us. Dolly chaiwala was also there. People were getting themselves clicked with him and did not recognize us. We started looking at each other," said the 26-year-old on the podcast.
“Harmanpreet has scored more than 150 goals, Mandeep has more than 100 field goals," he asserted.
“For an athlete, fame and money is one thing. But when people are watching you and appreciating you, there is no bigger satisfaction than that for an athlete," he further expressed.
