The baby rhino was rescued last year and was brought to the Kaluku Neonate Nursery after the forest officials failed to locate its mother.

There isn’t much that a heartwarming animal story can’t fix. Many such trending stories are on the internet, focusing on the happenings of animals, both rare and extraordinary. These stories not only connect readers to animals but also serve as a hope in hearts about the good. One such story of a baby rhino has now gained the internet’s attention. From the heart of Kenya, the heartwarming tale of an adorable rhino named Chamboi has won many hearts on social media. Shared by the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a viral video shows the free-spirited baby rhino enjoying life to the fullest.

The video shows little Chamboi running energetically behind his caretaker during their evening walk and also enjoying some cuddles at the same time. Along with the video, the trust also shared how Chamboi, described as the ‘pocket rocket’, likes to sprint back, with plenty of breaks for cuddles in between.

Reacting to the video, social media users took to the comment section and dropped several comments, praising the caretakers. A user wrote, “So cute & precious, thank you for caring for God’s creatures.,” while another one noted, “Chamboi! Such a little troublemaker…of the cutest kind! Love seeing him play and grow into his spunkiness. Sleep well tonight, little Chamboi.”

“I love seeing darling Chamboi so happy with his beloved Keepers. They really know how & when to dole out the cuddles – they are just the best! I think each heals the other in the ways that are most needed,” a third user commented while a fourth one said, “Appreciate the keepers.. lovely humans with big hearts.”

Chamboi’s rescue story

The trust also shared the rescue story of the baby rhino. It was in September 2023 when the rangers from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Tsavo Trust found Chamboi, all alone by a waterhole in the free-release rhino range of Tsavo West National Park. While the area is famously known for housing a large population of black rhinos, Chamboi’s mother was nowhere to be seen. After seeing no signs of his mother around, the trust decided to step in and give Chamboi a second chance at life. He was just a day old when he was rescued, and now the once-frail calf has blossomed into a “real character, huffing, puffing, and charging around with exuberance.”

The trust also shared that the baby rhino has been named after a hill in Tsavo West National Park, to keep him connected with his birthplace.
