This Bridge In MP's Khargone, Believed To Be Haunted, Has Taken 100 Lives In 26 Years
This bridge, built over the Narmada River, has been nicknamed Suicide Point.

In every state, certain places carry a notorious reputation for being haunted, causing locals to avoid them, whether they are forts, houses, abandoned malls, or bridges. In Madhya Pradesh, there is one such bridge infamous among locals for its eerie atmosphere, particularly after dark. As night falls, traffic dwindles and crossing the bridge becomes an unsettling experience, with some reporting laboured breathing while traversing it. Additionally, there have been disturbing accounts of individuals jumping from the bridge, adding to its sinister aura.

Located in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone region, the bridge spans the Narmada River and has acquired the ominous moniker of “Suicide Point” among locals due to the alarming number of fatalities occurring there over the past 26 years. Linking the villages of Makadkheda and Mandleshwar, the bridge stretches for at least one kilometre and is situated 48 kilometres from the Khargone district headquarters. It is traversed by the Chittorgarh-Bhusaval Highway.

According to residents, the bridge has witnessed numerous suicides in recent years, leading to a belief that the souls of the deceased still linger in the vicinity. Some claim that approaching the bridge at night evokes a sensation of being drawn towards it. Tragically, some deaths have occurred while individuals were attempting to take selfies on the bridge, while others lost their lives while performing religious rituals and offering puja materials into the river. Additionally, several fatalities have resulted from individuals jumping off the bridge.

Police records from Mandleshwar and Kasrawad corroborate reports of fatalities, with at least six people succumbing to the river’s depths by leaping from the bridge in the last five years alone. Consequently, locals harbour a deep-seated fear of crossing the bridge at night, reserving such endeavours for absolute necessity and preferring vehicular travel over walking.

In an interview with Local18, Dinesh Patidar revealed that the bridge, constructed 26 years ago, was marred by tragedy from its inception. A major accident during construction resulted in a portion of the bridge collapsing, burying 20 to 25 workers beneath its debris. Since its completion, the bridge has been plagued by a series of suicides, perpetuating its grim reputation.
