Would you like to visit a zoo with not one, not two or three but a total of five leopards that are man-eaters? These leopards, infamous for their violent approach as they come across a human being, have been rescued only to be kept in a zoo in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur. The dreaded leopards that have been kept under the supervision of various officers and wildlife specialists, made headlines for dodging wildlife rangers last year and have been believed to kill around 15-20 people.

Shaheed Ashfaq Ullah Khan Zoological Park in Gorakhpur was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2021. Animals like lions, tigers, leopards, hippopotami, deer, and chital in the zoo have been kept for the visitors. However, what intrigues and scares people at the same time are the five leopards in the zoo.

All these five man-eating leopards are extremely volatile due to which special cells have been made for them given the safety of the visitors arriving at the zoo for some gala time with their loved ones. While people are often excited to watch these leopards, the wild animals start roaring the moment they see a human.

Three of these leopards were rescued last year and have been brought from Bijnor. Given the dramatic rise in the incidents of man-animal conflict in the region due to these leopards, these man-eater leopards were trapped. The remaining two were brought from Balrampur. In Uttar Pradesh, these leopards are being taken care of under the supervision of a team of special doctors. The team takes care of the diet and their treatment. Though the dangerous animals have been rescued and are under supervision, they have been kept in five separate cells in a move to safeguard people.

Meanwhile, the doctor at the zoo, Yogesh said that the leopards are undergoing treatment adding that they used to be quite aggressive but now they are slowly recovering. However, Yogesh claimed that they cannot be released into any forest as they are a threat to humans.
