The ‘Money clip’ was first released in 2017.

When one thinks of Prada, one thinks of classic ‘utility chic’ outfits such as the clean-cut power suits, the iconic baguette bags, and neutral-coloured skirts in classic cuts. However, another item made by the Italian fashion house has now been causing a stir on social media. And it is a paperclip named ‘Money clip’. This clip was first released in 2017. As per its website, the ‘Money clip’ is made of 925 silver and is 6.5 centimeters in height. According to Moneycontrol, this single paperclip is priced at Rs 33,540. Normally, one can get a pack of multiple paperclips for under Rs 100 at a stationery shop.

Talking about this overpriced paperclip, an X user wrote, “If you ever feel stupid, just remember someone spent $400 on a Prada Engraved Paperclip…” Another person said, “If you buy the Prada paperclip I will rob you.” Someone else noted, “i’d never pay $185 for a paperclip, even if it’s made of silver and branded by prada. it’s just too much for such a simple item.”

Prada is not the only luxury clothing brand that has come up with bizarre designs in recent years. In November last year, Balenciaga launched a towel skirt made of terry cotton. This uni-sex skirt is priced at 925 US dollars (approximately Rs 77,026). The skirt, available in small and medium sizes, has two buttons at the waistline.

The furniture giant IKEA trolled Balenciaga’s towel by introducing its own ‘VINARN Towel Skirt’. In a post that mimicked Balenciaga’s model, IKEA shared a picture of a model wearing the VINARN towel skirt that was priced at 16 euros (approximately Rs 1,500).

Back in 2019, luxury brand Gucci launched a pair of sneakers that looked run down and messy. These sneakers were priced at 615 euros (approximately Rs 55,000). The website described these shoes as “A pastiche of different influences that span across decades’ and ‘materials inspired by vintage sportswear.”

Commenting on them, an X user wrote, “I wouldn’t pay £615 for any trainers, never mind some that look like they have been worn by someone for the last 6 months while working in a field.”

Similarly, back in 2018, Italian brand Golden Goose released a pair of shoes that were designed in such a way that they got a tattered look with duct tape put over them. These shoes were priced at 530 US dollars (approximately Rs 44,000). The brand website described the design as, “Crumply, hold-it-all-together tape details a distressed leather sneaker in a retro low profile with a signature sidewall star and a grungy rubber cupsole.”
