Naming restaurants after cities is not unusual. For instance, some of the most popular restaurants like Little Italy, Boston Sail Loft and Bombay Club are named after major cities and countries. It gets even more unique when these restaurant owners let loose their creative horses and name their restaurants, dishes or even drinks after celebrated personalities. However, a bar in the UK recently named a beer after Osama Bin Laden, one of the world’s most notorious terrorist leaders. The beer’s name attracted customers in large numbers, forcing the brewery to shut down their website and disconnect their mobile phones for some time.
According to reports, Mitchell Brewing Co. named the beer ‘Osama Bin Lager’ and called it their most popular production. As mentioned on their website, the beer is ‘a light refreshing lager with a hint of citrus taste’. One of the highlights is the design of the bottle. Its label contains a cartoon caricature of the Al Qaeda leader, who was killed in 2011. The brewery and pub are owned by a couple named Luke and Catherine Mitchell.
In an interaction with BBC, Luke Mitchell said, “They’re all tongue-in-cheek names — a nicer outlook on some horrible dictators. Talking about the pictures going viral on social media, Catherine said, “We’ve woken up the last couple of mornings with thousands and thousands and thousands of notifications.”
Notably, the brewery also makes some other unique drinks like Kim Jong Ale and Putin’s Porter. This has been their way to attract customers and take a sly dig at the dictators. It has been found that the brewery also gives €10 to a charity from every barrel of Osama Bin Lager, which helps the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack.
The brewery shared a picture of their ‘Osama Bin Lager’ beer on their social media handles as well.

Previously, a restaurant in Bengaluru also named their cocktail after the infamous Varthur Lake. They called it Varthur Overflow, which suggested the contamination levels of the lake.
