A content creator’s video is going viral due to his exploration of a restricted area. The Instagram clip starts with the user mentioning on text overlay that he is driving through the mountains, when he notices a restricted road. Alongside the text, users can see an abandoned street. The creator decides to pull over and follow it, without knowing what he will find. Walking further on the road, he realised he had entered an abandoned city. The city shows massive houses and overgrown streets that give an eerie vibe throughout the clip. The creator feels something off about the place as he notices a rag doll and an engraving on a wooden surface. He decided to go into some of the buildings with his team members and show that the people had left their belongings as it is in the house. Looking at the things gives the impression that someone had just recently moved out of the house. All the calendars had the same date and year, that is 2001. “Almost like this entire place was frozen in time”, the creator wrote on the clip’s text overlay. As the video proceeds further, users see that the people left their cars behind. The creator concludes the clip by asking what could have happened to this place.

Users came up with different arguments as to what could have possibly happened at this place. One of them commented that this place could have been abandoned because it was built on an active fault line. As per the user, the houses built here were deemed structurally unsafe and the whole place could have come down at any time. Another wrote that this is potentially the village Roghudi Vecchio. As per this user, the residents here spoke an ancient Greek language and were pushed up into the mountains due to invaders.

According to a report published in National Geographic, in the early 1970s, a devastating flood left Roghudi Vecchio uninhabitable. Almost all the residents left the village. Roghudi Vecchio, located in the hilly Calabria region has now become a ghost town.
