The video captures how people in a certain area have persevered in celebrating their beloved customs with unyielding fervour, even in the face of the intense rain that has hit the state.
In the video, which was probably taken around Janmashtami, people can be seen performing the lively garba traditional dance while wading through knee-deep water in the streets. The roads have become temporary dance floors due to the recent heavy rainfall causing flooding. As people embrace their cultural heritage amid hardship, background music and their happy cheers contribute to the celebratory ambiance.

The video on X was shared on August 30. The garba performance from Vadodara went viral, showcasing the community’s tenacity and capacity to have fun and rejoice even in the face of adversity. It acts as a reminder of the resilience of cultural customs and the strength of ties within the community.
Along with the garba celebrations, there was also another group in the state that was getting ready for the Janmashtami custom of dahi handi. While people in the flooded area danced and celebrated, a man tied a pot on a rope festooned with balloons.
Over the last week, Gujarat’s Saurashtra-Kachchh area has received heavy rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a deep depression in the vicinity was likely to build into a cyclonic storm that would hit the coast. While other sections of the state have seen some improvement, Vadodara and many surrounding districts are still experiencing flood-like conditions. Overflowing rivers have resulted in ongoing rescue and relief activities by authorities.
Over the last four days, 32 people have died in Gujarat due to rain-related accidents. In all, more than 18,000 people have been evacuated, and about 1,200 have been pulled from flood-affected locations throughout the state.
