YouTube recently took down a livestream by a content creator, Norme, while he was just a few hours short of making a world record. He had been streaming for over 250 hours in an attempt to break a no-sleep world record. Throughout the stream, Norme’s brother Don had been helping him stay awake by doing things like splashing water on him and making him stand up when he got too tired. With over a million followers, Norme’s stream quickly went viral and many people joined in to watch him stay awake. As the livestream went on, his viewers grew more worried as Norme started showing serious signs of sleep deprivation, like passing out, hallucinating and becoming incoherent.
However, Norme soon took to social media and shared that YouTube removed his Awake for 12 Days WORLD RECORD stream just 12 hours before he was supposed to reach his goal. He posted a picture of himself in front of a computer screen, showing the message from YouTube that said his stream had been removed.
“I got banned from YouTube, literally 12 hours from goal istg crying rn,” he wrote in his post on X.

As of now, the Guinness Book of World Records doesn’t track this record (of not sleeping for a long time) anymore because of the serious health risks and complications it might cause to the person.
YouTube agreed with the Guinness Book of World Records and decided to ban the stream because of how dangerous it was. The message from YouTube, shown in the photo, explained why the stream was removed. “It looks like Awake for 12 days WORLD RECORD LIVE 24/7 didn’t follow Community Guidelines. To help keep our community safe, we removed it from YouTube. We think your content didn’t follow our harmful and dangerous policy,” it said.
Even though he was disappointed, the YouTuber shared that he is now continuing his ‘world record’ attempt on Kick.

Here’s a glimpse of his livestream:
This is getting absolutely insane! YouTuber ‘Norme’ is now just 15 hours away from breaking the world record for no sleep. I can verify he has been live the entire time. Scary to watch! pic.twitter.com/dJgGTaz0D3— Matt Wallace (@MattWallace888) August 11, 2024
The record Norme is trying to beat was set in 1986 by a person named Robert McDonald. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Robert McDonald went 453 hours and 40 minutes (18 days 21 hours 40 minutes) without sleeping.
