Kathmandu: At least 53 human skeletons including three thought to be of foreigners, missing since the devastating April 25 earthquake, have been recovered by the Nepalese Army from a popular trekking destination in the north-east of Kathmandu, officials said.
Different teams of Nepal Army have recovered 53 human bodies from Langtang areas, where a large number of villagers had gone missing following a massive avalanche that swept away the entire village after the devastating April 25 earthquake.
According to a senior police officer, the rescue teams of army in coordination with locals recovered 53 human skeletons from the village.
Of them, three are supposed to be foreigners. Langtang is a popular trekking destination in the country. As many as 128 persons were rescued from the village during the first phase of the rescue operation after the disaster.
Local residents have reported that a total of 333 persons including 183 people of Langtang village were missing after the April 25 earthquake.
Security personnel from the Mahabir Battalion and Narayan Dal Battalion have been deployed in the search missing of the people buried in avalanche.
Over 9,000 people have been killed in the two major earthquakes that shook Nepal on April 25 and May 12.
