Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes has revealed a strict rule that only John Cena is allowed to break in the WWE.

In an interview with Sportbible, Rhodes talked about how WWE does not allow its superstars to speak directly to the camera.

“You know, what’s still a pretty big on-air rule but it’s good for production purposes, is not to talk into the camera,” he said before adding “That’s John’s thing. John looks at the camera and mentions Stu the cameraman, runs to the ring.”

Rhodes also discussed how even he didn’t want anyone to break this strict on-air rule. He reckons the only way anyone can have a shot at breaking this rule is by beating the 16-time champion.

“I don’t want to see anyone, including myself, do it – and I probably have done at some point…But that’s his [thing] and that’s the reason why it’s a rule – until somebody beats him and then it’s his,” Rhodes said.

Under the management of Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, several rules that were once a part of WWE have been scrapped in recent times. It includes the use of phrases such as ‘wrestling’ that was replaced by ‘sports entertainment’. Other terms such as ‘belt’ were also previously allowed despite the go-to words being ‘championship’ and ‘title’. But top WWE stars such as Rhodes are allowed a lot more freedom on live television compared to the rest of the roster.

Speaking about the changes, Rhodes said, “When I went away and came back I was allowed to bring everything back with me, including breaking a lot of the pre-existing rules.”

Rhodes was crowned champion earlier this year at WrestleMania 40 where he beat Roman Reigns for the Undisputed title. The American Nightmare is currently preparing to take on WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther at the WWE Crown Jewel 2024 which is scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

As for Cena, the WWE superstar announced his retirement from professional wrestling at the 2024 Money in the Bank premium live event. Cena revealed he has plans to participate in the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania events next year and that it would be his last ride with the company.
