Following the WWE mega-show WrestleMania 40, fans witnessed the first Friday Night SmackDown episode emanating live from the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Hosted on April 12, the weekly live event began with Cody Rhodes addressing the WWE universe.
A couple of WWE Undisputed Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament Semifinals were advertised that saw stars like Bobby Lashley, Kevin Owens and AJ Styles compete. Fans also witnessed a one-on-one clash between Bron Breakker and Cameron Grimes. In women’s action, we saw Naomi face off against Tiffany Straton. In tag-team action, Bianca Belair teamed up with Jade Cargill to take on Chelsea Green and Piper Niven.
Cody Rhodes addressed WWE fans
The latest episode of SmackDown began with a recap of Cody Rhodes’ triumph over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. A video of the storyline was played on the big screen as the American Nightmare made his way to the ring. After talking about The Rock, Rhodes mentioned how he was focused on WWE Backlash to be held next month. He revealed that six men would be competing on the night for a championship spot against him at the upcoming WWE premium live event. They included Kevin Owens, Rey Mysterio, AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley, LA Knight and Santos Escobar.
Logan Paul announces a new era
Logan Paul cuts a promo during the show from his home talking about his WrestleMania 40 triumph. He spoke on how he entered the ring against Kevin Owens and Randy Orton but was able to retain and remain champion. Paul also mentioned the success of the ‘Show of Shows’ while also claiming a major chunk of that viewership was because of him. He concluded his promo by saying that a new era has begun at the WWE and he is also a part of it.
Tama Tonga appears on SmackDown
The segment began with Paul Heyman entering the ring with what was left of The Bloodline. He talked about how they don’t blame John Cena, The Undertaker or Jey Uso for what happened at WrestleMania 40. During the promo, a masked man attacked Jimmy Uso. Paul tried to reach for the phone but Sokoa smashed the device under his foot. After the segment, the new Bloodline left the ramp with a nervous Paul Heyman following them behind.

Bobby Lashley vs LA Knight vs Santos Escobar in the WWE Undisputed Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament Semifinals: LA Knight won the triple threat via pinfall with the BFT.
Bron Breakker vs. Cameron Grimes: Bron Breakker sealed a pinfall victory using The Powerslam.
Naomi vs Tiffany Straton: Naomi won the match using a jackknife pinfall.
Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill vs Chelsea Green and Piper Niven: Jade Cargill sealed the victory with the Jaded on Chelsea Green.
AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens vs. Rey Mysterio in the WWE Undisputed Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament Semifinals: AJ Styles won the match with the avalanche Styles Clash.
