New Delhi: They may already be on top of the world for bagging some of the best pay packages in the country, but it’s just getting bigger and better.

Now there is another good news for the students of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

Stanford University (SU) has tied up with the IIM, Bangalore, for a student exchange programme, which will start from the next academic year, a senior varsity official was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.

The announcement was made in Mumbai on Monday.

SGSB senior associate dean Daniel Rudolph said that under the auspices of the Stanford-IIMB Exchange Programme, 16 students from Stanford's Graduate School of Business (SGSB) will visit India each September.

He added that their visit will be followed by an equal number of IIM-B students to US in December.

Stanford students are already visiting India and the university also has a Centre for South Asia in its US campus to increase south Asian faculty strength and support research.

Speaking on the prospects of starting a campus in India, SU president John Hennessy said, "As a foreign university, we want a lot of autonomy and minimum interference from the government. It has been very critical in creation of world-class institutions as we have in the US."

Hennessy added that the number of Asian students coming to Stanford had steadily increased and Indian students rank second in number, next only to China.

The University has also started a "loan forgiveness" programme to increase the number of foreign students.

Under the programme, the loan installment of a student who earns "lower wages" in his home country will be paid by an alumni if he decides to return to his home country after studies, Rudolph said.

Regarding the contribution of Indian alumni, Hennessy said, "They are a very young and innovative lot and are busy in wealth generation right now. They are extremely concerned about development of India."
