The onus will be on the Indian side as they will aim to bounce back after the loss in the first Test against England at Hyderabad. The home side was outplayed by the English batting unit in the second innings thanks to a stellar knock of 196 by the vice-captain, Ollie Pope to take the game away from the hosts. The English bowling attack came in with the hunger to win in the second innings as they toiled away to secure the victory.
Mohammed Siraj had an unimpressive outing in his home ground. The skipper Rohit Sharma did not rely on his services due to the nature of the track and primarily focused the bowling on Bumrah, Jadeja, Ashwin and Axar all of which managed to pick up wickets in the Test.

Questions will be asked about Siraj’s capability to perform on Indian tracks for the red-ball games. Considering the nature of the pitches adding a fourth spinner in place of Siraj could be a possibility for the upcoming Test in Vizag.
The former Indian spinner, Anil Kumble shared his opinions on India requiring a fourth spinner. Speaking to JioCinema, he commented,” I am not really sure whether you need a fourth spinner. But if India feels that they need only one fast bowler then having Kuldeep will certainly help.”
The left wrist-spinner, Kuldeep Yadav has not had too many chances but has been able to make noticeable contributions in the red-ball format. He has three five-wicket hauls in the eight games he has played so far. which came in Chattogram, Rajkot and Sydney. His ability to turn the ball and his variety in mixing it up can be a beneficial aspect for India’s bowling attack if the tracks are similar to the one in Hyderabad.

However, Kumble believes that things will not change for England and will maintain their approach. A change in approach to playing the spinners is also something the experienced leg-spinner mentioned. He added,” He will have variations but England will come and do the same things they did in Hyderabad. The wicket could be a turning one and we are expecting the pace to be quicker than this. This was slow but it was a good wicket if you applied yourself. India certainly needs to buckle up with their approach to playing against spin because I felt the approach of a couple of batters wasn’t positive and even the footwork wasn’t what you expected.”
Kumble also pointed out that the Indian team were thrown off balance by England’s batting approach and emphasised the need for improvising plans. Kumble concluded by saying,” I also felt that they were certainly rattled by the way England approached their batting and with that, they have to come up with plans, some unconventional ones. They never tried any variations so that’s something I am sure they will be looking to do.”
