Competition Must be Healthy; Students Report Card is Not Parents Visiting Card: PM Modi at PPC 2024

To address exam stress and children reduce pressure, “parents and teachers must address the problems together,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at Pariksha Pe Charcha 2024. While addressing a question on students being compared to other students or siblings by their parents, the PM said that too much comparison can cause harm to children’s mental health and requested parents to be careful. He also added that one must be ready to tackle pressure as it keeps on building, and one has to prepare oneself beforehand.

Many parents who are not successful in their lives boast about the successes, and achievements of their children and make the report card of their children as their visiting card. Whenever they meet someone, they will tell them the story of their children. This should be avoided, PM Modi said. Parents should avoid comparison and ‘running commentary’ as it creates pressure on students, he added.

Parents should not pressure students so much that their capabilities are affected. Rather it should be a gradual development. Competition must be healthy, he added.

He also said that a teacher’s relationship with their students starts at the beginning of the academic year and ends with the board exams. A teacher must help students with reducing pressure and their job is to change the life of the student for good. “The day teachers go beyond the curriculum and establish a relationship with students, they will talk to you about their thoughts even about their small problems,” Modi said.

PM Modi interacted with students who showcased their tech innovations at the 7th edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha today, January 29. The event commenced at 11 am at Bharat Mandapam, ITPO, New Delhi, and is being organised in town hall format. Organized by the Ministry of Education, Pariksha Pe Charcha is an annual event in which Prime Minister Modi interacts and provides guidance to students, teachers, and parents at the beginning of the examinations. This event is part of a larger movement called ‘Exam Warriors’ led by PM Modi, which aims to create a stress-free environment for the youth.
