PM Modi Lauds Decade of Educational Progress as Indian Universities Climb QS Rankings

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently applauded major gains in India’s education sector, as represented in the QS World University Rankings. Modi highlighted the qualitative shifts in education over the past decade in his tweet, applauding institutions, teachers, and students for their hard work. This acknowledgement came after a post from CEO and Managing Director of QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd, Nunzio Quacquarell, pointing out that there has been an astounding 318% rise in Indian universities’ rankings among the world’s best, from 11 in 2015 to 46 at present—the greatest growth among G20 countries.

The post put out by PM Narendra Modi on “X”  (formerly Twitter) reads “Over the last decade, we have focused on qualitative changes in the education sector. This is reflected in the QS World University Rankings. Compliments to the students, faculty and institutions for their hard work and dedication. In this term, we want to do even more to boost research and innovation.”

The improvement in rankings reflects a change in the nature of higher education in India. It emphasises how the government is working to make educational reforms and initiatives that promote excellence and global competitiveness a top priority. The Prime Minister’s future vision calls for stepping up these initiatives, especially in the areas of innovation and research, to ensure that India remains on an upward trajectory in global educational standards.

“Under Narendra Modi’s leadership, the last 10 years have seen continued improvement in the performance of Indian universities in QS World University Rankings,” stated Nunzio Quacquarelli in his post on “X”.

According to the QS World University Rankings 2025, IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi have attained noteworthy rankings. IIT Bombay jumped to 118th rank from 149th rank last year, while IIT Delhi jumped 47 places to 150th rank.
