BERHAMPUR: Forest officials of Ranipahar forest checkpoint in Kandhamal district seized kendu leaves worth ` 15 lakh and 5 kg of ganja on Friday. Sources said, two trucks and a four-wheeler, carrying kendu leaves, did not have any relevant papers during a routine check by foresters. Further investigation revealed that the trucks also had a number of fake number plates. About 5 kg of ganja was seized from the Bolero, the pilot vehicle. During interrogation, drivers of the trucks revealed the kendu leaves were loaded from Deojhar near Angul. The consignment was headed for Kolkata via Khalikote and Phulbani.However, Forest Department officials suspect involvement of an inter-state racket behind the consignment. The seized ganja has been handed over to the Excise officials. Transport officials have been instructed to probe the fake number plates. About 15 persons have been detained.
