Islamabad: Twenty-nine more oil tankers carrying fuel for NATO forces in Afghanistan were destroyed by gunmen in Pakistan, a media report said on Saturday.

The tankers caught fire after gunmen opened fire at the vehicles late on Friday in the Mithri area of Balochistan province, Geo TV reported.

This is the fifth attack on NATO supply vehicles since October 1 in Pakistan.

A security official said, "Twenty-seven NATO oil containers were heading to Afghanistan from Karachi when some gunmen opened indiscriminate fire at the vehicles in the Mithri locality of Bolan district in Balochistan."

The firing triggered a huge ablaze that engulfed the tankers. Firefighters were called in from the Sibi district to put out the blaze, he told reporters.

Meanwhile, security forces have surrounded the area and launched a search operation for the gunmen.

Earlier, militants had torched over 50 NATO oil tankers in different parts of Pakistan.
