BANGALORE: Association of Promoting Social Action (APSA) will organise evaluation study on Sexual Health Intervention Project (SHIP) at United Theological College (UTC) near Cantonment Railway Station on August 1, from 10 am to 5 pm.The project was conducted with the help of eight NGOs across the three southern states of India, i.e, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka during the year 2010-2011. The evaluation study has been done with 250 children and 65 facilitators in the past one year who were part of the SHIP sessions.SHIP is a project undertaken by APSA which uses a comprehensive approach to build knowledge and to empower children in making their own informed decisions about sexual health. This in turn helps to build a much-needed sense of personal control over their lives and their actions by taking into account the attitudes and sexual realities of street children such as same-sex activities, sexual abuse, coercion and sex for exchange.APSA-SHIP not only provides the children with adequate information but also addresses misconceptions on sexual health.Through an intense and long programme, it raises self-awareness through a highly personal approach that goes beyond the topic of HIV/AIDS.The unique feature of the programme is that it makes use of several participatory methods such as games, activities, storytelling through puppets and role plays to equip children with accurate information and appropriate skills required to be healthy, happy and responsible in their sexual interactions and relationships.
