The terrorists and security forces are engaged in a gunbattle in Pampore since Saturday evening. The terrorists attacked a CRPF bus in Pampore area killing two jawans and injuring 11, before hiding inside the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI).

Captain Pawan Kumar, 22, of 10 Paras led his men from the front. "I had one child and I gave him to the Army, to the nation. No father can be more prouder. He was destined to be in the Army as he was Born on the Army Day, January 15, 1993, Pawan's father Sri Rajbir Singh said.

Pawan was a very brave intrepid officer with barely three years of service but maturity beyond his age. He had already been in two successful operations earlier in which three terrorists were killed.

Reportedly, three to five terrorists are suspected to be holed up inside the building.

One civilian and two CRPF jawans were killed on Saturday. A possible hostage situation was avoided when CRPF and local police managed to evacuate civilians who were holed up inside EDI building located at Pampore, in the outskirts of the Srinagar city.

Personnel of the Army, whose elite 15 Corps headquarters is located barely 10 kms from the encounter site, were rushed to the encounter site to assist the local police and the CRPF.
