New Delhi: In a follow up to the Balco plant chimney collapse tragedy in Korba that left over 49 people dead, police said employees of Chinese firm SEPCO, that was building the plant for Balco, will be questioned.
Superintendent Of Police Korba Ratanlal Dangi, said, "As far as our information 16 Chinese has returned back and four Chinese workers are already in the city. We will interrogate them regarding the incident as per our convenience."
The government had asked 89 Chinese workers at the plant to stay back after many of them, mostly engineers, tried to flee fearing a backlash after the chimney collapse.
CNN-IBN has reported that poor quality of construction could have led to that deadly accident.
The accident had occurred on September 23 when a 223 meter-tall chimney at an underconstruction thermal power plant of BALCO collapsed, killling as many has 49 labourers.
It is learnt that the work to erect the smoke stack was being done by SEPCO who had further sub-let it to Gannon Dunkerley and Company Ltd (GDCL) company.
According to sources, the GDCL officials had absconded soon after the incident.
A team of police officials from Chattishgarh has been in Delhi and Kolkata for further interrogations.
