The CBI was also given permission to interrogate Shahbuddin and two other accused in the case.

Jaipur: The police remand of Shahbuddin, the key accused in the Bhanwari Devi missing case, was on Monday extended by five days.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was also given permission to interrogate Shahbuddin and two other accused for two days.

Shahbuddin had been remanded to police custody after he had surrendered in a court in Jaipur on October 22.

He is a history-sheeter and considered to be close to former Rajasthan water resources minister Mahipal Maderna, who has been sacked from the Rajasthan Cabinet by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot following allegations that he was behind the mysterious disappearance of Bhanwari Devi. He is suspected to have killed the nurse.

Shahbuddin, carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, had surrendered before Metropolitan Magistrate (Economic Offences) Alka Gupta who is dealing with the CBI cases in the absence of the CBI Magistrate. Soon after the surrender, he was taken for a medical check up.

The 36-year-old nurse, Bhanwari Devi, has been missing since September 1 and her family suspects that she has been murdered. The CBI had on October 11 taken over investigation into disappearance of Bhanwari Devi and registered a case in this regard.
