BALASORE: In a major development in the minor girl torture case, Delhi Police on Monday arrested two persons. The arrested house owner, Abhinav Arya, a laundry equipment manufacturer and the employer, Suresh Behera are now being interrogated.Sources said a 14-year-old girl from Bhogarai area of Balasore district was working as a domestic help at Arya’s place at Paschim Vihar in Delhi for the last two years. She was allegedly tortured and later dumped at Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Delhi with multiple injuries and a fractured spine.The matter came to the fore when a Delhi-based NGO discovered the girl in the hospital crying for help.The Crime Branch registered a case on the basis of a complaint by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Sources said the girl was hired through Behera to baby-sit Arya’s children, but was made to do household chores.She was allegedly beaten up a week before Diwali and locked up in the toilet by Arya’s wife after she failed to lift a heavy metal box, a police officer said. “When the girl complained of severe pain she was rushed to a private nursing home where she was administered pain killer and then taken back home. She was again forced to work with all the injuries and pain,” said a police officer.Crime Branch has registered a case under Sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act and the Juvenile Justice Act. “Arya’s wife who is prime accused is absconding. We are raiding different places and their relatives’ houses to nab her,” the police officer added.The Delhi Police swung into action following the intervention of the Chief Minister’s Office which was tipped off by some social activists about the incident.
