The deadlock on EAMCET engineering counselling is unlikely to be resolved soon as the final decision for a revised fee-structure has been referred to a nine-member cabinet committee by the chief minister.
Contrary to the government’s statement on starting the counselling by August 6, official sources say that a final decision will be reached only by August 10 and counselling may be delayed to mid-August. After the petition filed by the state was dismissed by the apex court Wednesday, the government has to decide on a uniform fee-structure for 240 private colleges which had applied for fee revision. Meanwhile, the students have lost precious time.
As per the apex court decision, the individual colleges will have to implement uniform fee for 70 per cent category A seats and 30 per cent category B seats, the only difference being the process of admission. The admissions will continue as per EAMCET rankings for category A seats and intermediate marks and performance in EAMCET for category B seats. The colleges may also hike fee for 5 per cent NRI quota seats by up to 2 lakh per annum.
“There was no clarity on whether the government will revise the fee for the 470 colleges which did not apply for the fee revision. Also, if the 133 colleges which are said to have submitted complete details regarding infrastructure and faculty details are allowed to increase the fee beyond Rs 50,200, the remaining 107 colleges will also demand a revision of the figure,” said K V K Rao, general secretary of the Consortium of Engineering and Private College Managements Association (CEPCMA).
