Cauvery protests: Chief Minister, Bommai blamed

Squarely blaming Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and the Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai for the present crisis on the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, Congress leader Siddaramaiah has decreed the BJP government for targeting the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the matter.

Addressing a convention of the KPCC backward classes wing’s office bearers and district presidents here on Monday, Siddaramaiah has charged that the the BJP leaders are trying to politicise the Cauvery issue to cover up their blunders which had led to the present crisis.

“We have advised the government not to release water to Tamil Nadu at the allparty floor leaders meetings convened by Chief Minister. But the government has ignored our suggestion on the matter,” he said.

The CM who has claimed to prefer to sacrifice his office rather than release water to Tamil Nadu during his interaction with the farmers leaders of Mandya is now blaming the PM after releasing water to Tamil Nadu at midnight, added Siddaramaiah.

Denying the charges chat Congress is trying to politicise the issue, he said that the Congress has like a rock by the state government on its stand to not release water to Tamil Nadu when the people of the state are facing severe drought conditions.

Opining that Shettar, state counsel F S Nariman and Bommai should be blamed for the present Cauvery crisis, he said, “The state government has totally failed to convince both CRA and Apex Court on the prevailing ground realities owing to deficit rainfall and poor storage at Cauvery basin reservoirs.”
