BRS leader K Kavitha was arrested by the CBI on Thursday in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy Scam case. Notably, Kavitha is currently lodged in Tihar Jail and was questioned by the probe agency inside the prison last Saturday.
According to sources, Kavitha will stay in Tihar on Thursday night and will be produced in court on Friday morning. Following which, the CBI will seek her custody.
Earlier on Wednesday, the CBI questioned K Kavitha in Tihar where she is lodged after her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate. The Delhi court had on April 5 allowed the CBI to quiz Kavitha in jail, however, she challenged the order.
The Telangana MLC and daughter of BRS leader K Chandrasekhar Rao was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam on March 15 from her Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad.
Notably, Kavitha has been accused of being a key member of the “South Group”, which allegedly Rs 100 crore kickbacks to the ruling AAP in Delhi in return for a big share of liquor licences in the national capital.
The BRS leader was questioned by the CBI regarding the WhatsApp chats recovered from co-accused Buchi Babu’s phone and documents related to a land
deal, after which Rs 100 crore was allegedly paid to AAP to swing the excise policy for the national capital in favour of a liquor lobby.
