BANGALORE: SAP Labs India launched a first-of-its-kind online portal Charitra in Bangalore on November 10. It is a product that enables volunteers, non-profit organisations and corporations to connect and work together towards common social causes and was created indigenously by the team at SAP Labs India.The website was launched officially in Madrid (Spain) and globally in Bangalore. SAP helps companies of all sizes and industries run better through their software solutions and help them grow and sustain. Charitra is a social initiative from SAP Labs to make the world run better by enabling charities to use technology to function better. The biggest challenge faces by the NGOs today is their connection with the right volunteers. On the other hand, more often individuals refrain from volunteering because they are not able to find the right cause. SAP has brought in this initiative to bridge this gap through technology.Charitra is a free public website which enables the not -for -profit organizations can put forward a need on the website which would be addressed by the individual or an organization which can satisfy it.The portal also helps mobilise volunteers and resources towards a specific activity. For individuals and corporations this website allows them to easily find causes that they want to support, connect with NGOs and share their experiences and needs with others. Their can be no monetary transactions made on this site but only the material based could be done.The website is currently being used extensively in the Indian market with over 6000 active users and participation from over 75 non-profit organisations. Charitra recently enabled over 50 non-profit organisations and thousands of volunteers throughout India during the Joy of giving week, a nation wide event  during which millions of people volunteered their time and resources to many social  causes.“The portal is in its initial stage right now and it would be updated and equipped with all the latest technological aspects, we  are planning to connect Charitra with the social networking sites like Facebook to enable the people connect better”, said V R Ferose Managing Director. The website is www.charitra.in and can be accessed by any NGOs having a need which would be addressed the potential organisation or an individual and can be used by any country.
