In a bid to prevent anaemia among adolescent girls, the Chhattisgarh government has decided to distribute free medicines in school and creches.
"To control and prevent anaemia among adolescent girls, the government will distribute iron folic acid (IFC) tablets in all schools twice a week from the next academic session," an official here said.
These tablets will be distributed on Tuesday and Saturday every week while albendazole, which is used to treat intestinal worm infections will be given twice in an academic year, in the months of August and January, he said.
The health and haemoglobin levels of students will also be checked regularly. School children between class six and class 12 will be covered under the programme, besides girls between the ages of 10 and 19 years who do not attend school.
